We are still evolving but in a more horizontal way than vertical. What I mean is that instead of evolving in a way that has made us more competitive as a species, we have been evolving in a way that just makes us more diverse and not much else. Crockford's point still holds. We have not changed in? the past 10,000 years in any ways that make us better, we are simply more diverse. This is how dogs started to evolve after we started selecting cuteness over abilities.

I think it's a combo of both things. I smoked for many years and I know exactly what Crockford means: it's an addictive habit, but the hardest thing about quitting is there is no palpable sense of danger from it in my gut. I have to reason logically about why I should quit. In fact, the thing that let me quit for good was exercising more, because it gave me an immediate and visceral disincentive. Without that, in my head I knew? it was bad, but in my gut it was like, eh, no big deal.

Great talk but I have a nitpick. Crockford claimed that "there has been no human evolution since? the Paleolithic Era". That's just plain wrong. Humans have never stopped evolving. If anything evolution has greatly accelerated in the past 10,000 years. Search for current human evolution for more info.

One day last week after having purchased 2oz of three different blends, I smoke about 5 bowls. The next day I noticed a bit of blistering on the tip of my tongue; I'm assuming as a result of the chemical burn or tongue bite. Is that normal? Have you ever suffered from that? *head desk* While I get all the points you're making... as a pipe smoker who picked up the pipe less than 10 years ago... videos like this do nothing but discourage people from giving it a try. A new meerschaum pipe can be found for $25 or less online and it doesn't require the same care as a briar pipe. A nice cool burning and sweet black cavendish can be had for a? few dollars per pouch online. Really packing properly is the only thing needed for a good starting smoke. Encourage not discourage.

Electric cigarettes has to be one of the most revolutionary inventions ever. I drink a lot with friends? and for some reason get an overly compelling need to smoke and would burn through like 4 or 5 cigs the same night. When I use an e-cig not only is it 100% safer but I find myself smoking even less than I used to. I even turned all my friends on to e-cigs rather than the real thing. Just as the marijuana debate is so insanely complicated by ignorant users and abusers who confuse facts with myths and combine it all into an argument. Addiction is bad - harmful mentally and physically. Any addiction should be resisted. From one addiction to another is typical in an addictive mind. It can/should? be done - but people just don't want to, their weakness is overwhelming. But it can/should be done.

Exactly that! He recalled that he had been listening to The Verve who have a song called "The Drugs Don't Work". He was so impressed with the title of the song, that he decided to name his song with a similarly catchy title. The? name is also a metaphor for continuing to go back to a bad relationship even though you know it will end badly and you'll end up getting hurt, compared to everyone knowing cigarettes can cause health problems but many people continuing to smoke them anyway.

to be honest i think the title.. cigarettes will kill you is a direct metaphor for staying in an unhealthy relationship... with cigarettes you smoke them and they make you feel good in the short term.. but long term they? are causing you harm... relationships can be like that... i wouldnt read too much into the narrative of the video.. its just another layer of storytelling..
