Tobacco a modern marvel??!! No,please no.give me? a break:tobacco is a weapon of mass destruction, like the nuclear bomb. For example:during the first years of the colonization of North America by European settlers, those settlers sent a weapon of mass destruction to native Americans: alcool and blankets contaminated with smallbox and measels viruses. On the other hand:American Natives gave to the rest of the world tobacco,not knowing it's bad for your health. Result:millions died on both sides.

without nicotine, at this point in time, it would have little commercial use. however, there is growing research of medical applications for anticancer? tobacco cembranoids (irony i know) nicotine and anatabine. it certainly doesn't have to be smoked as cigarettes. if the nicotine is reduced through breeding it could even become somewhat edible, supplying a quality balanced source of protein as a vegetable not unlike lettuce or spinach.
